 Anand, Gujarat (SAR News) -


            A short story collection ‘Chandragrahann’ and a collection of children’s poems ‘Coral-Samshti’ were released in a special function on April 27, 2013. The Director of Gujarat Sahitya Prakash Fr. Jerry Sequeira, SJ presided in the book releasing function held in Senior Citizen’s Hall of St. Xavier’s Church, Gamdi-Anand.


            Chief Guest and Chairman of Children’s Literature Academy and author of more than 400 books Yeshwant Mehta released ‘Coral-Samshti’ and appreciated Alphonse Macwan’s contributions to children’s literature which began with the publication of ‘Killol’, his first  collection children’s poems in 2007. Mehta wished the author many more contributions to children’s literature. Children were Alphonse’s first love as he started his career teaching children for 5 years before joining railway service.


            Fr. Jerry Sequeira SJ released ‘Chandragrahann’ (meaning Eclipse of Moon) the first collection of 18 short stories by Alphonse Macwan. Speaking on the occasion Fr. Sequeira appreciated the author’s contributions not only to literature but also editing parish newsletter and social publications, and organizing and conducting tours to Holy Land Israel and the eternal city Rome. He also invited him to write and publish another short story collection to be named ‘Suriyagrahann’ after ‘Chandragrahann’ but without any eclipse.


            Speaking on the occasion Dr. Surendrabhai Asthavadi who has written prefaces to both the short story collection and Children’s poetry collection said that Alphonse Macwan’s stories are interesting. Many stories are taken from his experiences as a Station Master in the railway before his retirement. He also appreciated the author’s love for children expressed in his simple poems and in the title of the collection given after his two grand children.


            Among the special invitees on the stage there were well known literary writers and authors like Dr. Surendra Asthavadi, Fr. Varghese Paul, SJ, Mr. Bipinbhai Pandya, Mr. K. P. Rajbharti, Mrs. Nitaben Patel and Mr. Manish Macwan.


            A number of special invitees too spoke on the occasion felicitating Alphonse for his literary contributions.


            More than a hundred friends and well wishers of Alphonse Macwan participated in the book releasing function and many of them felicitated the author with garlands and bouquets.


            Responding to the felicitations and love shown to him by many people Alphonse Macwan said that writing and traveling were his hobbies from his childhood but he could seriously persue them only after his retirement. He expressed his gratitude to all and said that he missed his mentor late Joseph Macwan.
