Gujarati Lakhak Mandal (GLM - Gujarati Writers Association) has unanimously elected Jesuit priest Fr. Varghese Paul as its Chairman in the board meeting in July 19, 2013. Fr. Varghese has succeeded an eminent journalist and author of more than 400 books, Mr. Yashwant Mehta who was the Chairman GLM for 12 years.

Varghese was Vice President of GLM for two terms from 2007. He joined GLM in 2004. He continues to be in the editorial team of GLM quarterly publication: "Lekhak and Lekhan".

The other office bearers are Manishi Jani, President; Pratibhaben Takkar and Rita Bhatt, Vice Presidents; Mahesh Soni, Manhar Oza and Paresh Dave, Secretaries and Binit Modi, Treasurer. The other five members in the Executive are Kiran Trivedi, Mayurika Anil, Ashish Kakkad, Minaxi Chandrana and Bhanuprasad Purani.

GLM is a registered Charitable Trust with more than 800 members. Any writer writing in any language in Gujarat and outside Gujarat in India and abroad only those writing in Gujarati are eligible for membership in GLM.

The Managing committee of GLM includes all the above members as well as other 7 founding members of GLM. The GLM Executive Body meets every Friday at Ahmedabad. The Friday meetings are open for any and every GLM members to participate.

"I like GLM because it is a very democratic institution without any distinction of caste and creed. Veterans in the profession as well as beginners have equal status in GLM. Then, GLM is doing an excellent job promoting and defending the rights of journalists, writers and authors," says the new GLM Chairman.

Perhaps, GLM may be the only body of writers in India, which is also registered as a Trade Union. GLM has earned good name and fame in taking up a cases and helping its members to get their rights without going to courts.

GLM also conducts seminars and workshops for collegians and university students interested in print media and creative writing.
